offering to Ganesha.

i am currently in the middle of a paleo-vegan cleanse. with the rise of spring and summer, i felt that my body needed a cleanse and to add in more raw veggies and green juices. it has been over a year since i transitioned out of the vegan diet and began to follow the paleo/primal way of eating and feel better than i ever have in my life. but, eating strict vegan for a period of time has many benefits. one of them is enjoying green smoothies! i am going to write a whole blog post detailing my 5 day journey back into veganism with a paleo twist, but i wanted to share a new green smoothie recipe that i created last week and have been enjoying every morning for breakfast. i also want to mention that i took nuts out of my diet during this time, which gives this smoothie a unique flavor with the addition of hemp seed butter.

superfoods stocked! (maca, hemp seed butter, chia seeds, vitamineral greens)

High on Hemp Green Smoothie

1-2 frozen organic bananas
2 Tbsp Manitoba Harvest Hemp Seed Butter
2 Tbsp Chia Seeds
2 tsp Vitamineral Greens
1 tsp Sol Raiz Maca
1/2 cup coconut milk
1 cup filtered water
*bee pollen sprinkled on top for additional protein & crunch

everything in the vitamix ready to blend!

blended smoothie is ready to pour and top with bee pollen!

i also want to share the nutritional values of the superfood ingredients i have chosen for my smoothie:

Hemp Seeds – Hemp seeds provide all your recommended amino acids and fatty acids that allow muscles to work and grow effectively because it is easily absorbed and digested by the body. Hemp seeds are also a great source of chlorophyll, calcium, magnesium, ascorbic acid, beta-carotene, fiber, iron, potassium, riboflavin, niacin and thiamine and trace minerals.

Chia Seeds – Chia is an edible seed that comes from the desert plant Salvia hispanica, a member of the mint family that grows abundantly in southern Mexico. in pre-Columbian times they were a main component of the Aztec and Mayan diets and were the basic survival ration of Aztec warriors. chia is very rich in omega-3 fatty acids and fiber as well as calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, manganese, copper, iron, niacin, and zinc.

Maca – Maca powder is derived from the maca root plant and plays an important roll in increasing your overall energy and vitality. It also helps to reduce and manage your stress levels, improve your quality of sleep, and increase your libido. Maca aids in this work because it is an adaptogen, which facilitates your body’s ability to balance overall hormonal health. Maca is also a rich source of sterols — steroid-like compounds found in both plants and animals that promote quick regeneration of fatigued muscle tissue and respond to stress.

Vitamineral Green – is a superior, nutritionally dense, therapeutic green superfood powder which nutritionally supports blood sugar, detoxification, the immune system, liver, kidneys, blood, bones, colon, pancreas, muscles, brain, regularity, circulation, and longevity.

Bee Pollen this is produced when bees collect pollen from flowers and then they mix it with digestive enzymes before feeding it to the hive. bee pollen contains vitamins, minerals, carbohydrates, lipids, and protein and many trace elements such as  iron, copper, magnesium, zinc, calcium, manganese, and potassium. bee pollen also helps balance the pH of your body and bring it to a more alkaline state.

i am really enjoying the nutty-flavor of hemp seed butter that offers a high source of omega-3, iron and protein. now that the weather is getting warmer, a cold, thick green smoothie is perfect after my morning WOD! if you try this smoothie out, let me know!
